PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Honey Stinger Waffles are a sweet snack that is easy to eat while hiking. They can be consumed in four bites. The waffles are flat and can easily fit in a shirt or pants pocket or a hip belt zipper pocket. The three waffle flavors are made with the same organic ingredients, including organic honey. Natural flavorings have been added to the lemon and chocolate flavors. Most of the calories are from the high fat and sugar content, making them an excellent quick energy boost.

This is the nutrition information from the Honey Stinger website for the Honey and Lemon flavors.

All of the waffles are 160 calories. The chocolate waffle has more fat and sodium and less fiber and carbs than the lemon and honey flavors. I find it interesting that the chocolate waffle has more protein and less sugar than the honey and lemon flavors. These waffles may not work well as a meal replacement energy bar. The waffles are a quick energy snack sweetened with honey.

The honey flavor tastes just like a breakfast waffle with syrup. The lemon flavor has a slight lemon taste. The chocolate flavor definitely has a chocolate flavor but is not overpowering. They were easy to retrieve from my pocket and consume while hiking. They tasted good and were a pleasant alternative to the traditional trail mix. They left no chalky or unpleasant aftertaste. I took a small drink of water after eating the waffle. The package is small and easy to stuff back into the pocket where the waffle was stored.

PERFORMANCE IN THE FIELD

The waffles continued to be an enjoyable and tasty snack between meals and for dessert. I especially liked the chocolate flavor which was a special treat after a long day on the trail. I usually carried one waffle in my pocket so it was warm and soft. The waffles held up well during transit in a pocket or in my food bag. They became crumbly and broken when I carried them for three or more days on the longer trips, but they still tasted good.

I saved a chocolate waffle for the last day of the 5-day Joshua Tree trip after we returned to the car. It was warm and soft from being in my pocket all day. I think the filling was a little more gooey than usual or maybe I was just a little more tired than usual.

I found the waffles to be hard and chewy in the colder temperatures. The change in temperature did not affect the taste. I enjoyed the waffles as an afternoon snack on a showshoe hike in the Big Bear mountains.

SUMMARY

I really enjoyed this test. I had been looking at the waffles in my local outdoor gear store and was curious about them. While the chocolate was my favorite, the honey and lemon flavors were nice alternatives.

This test series is now concluded. Thank you to Honey Stinger Waffles and BackpackGeartest.org for allowing me to participate in this testing opportunity.
