AGE: 55
LOCATION: Los Angeles County, California, USA
GENDER: F
HEIGHT: 5' 5" (1.65 m)
WEIGHT: 130 lb (59.00 kg)

I converted from day hiking and car camping to backpacking in spring 2013. Since then, I have selectively purchased new, more lightweight gear, while I still carry some heavier gear from my car camping trips. I always hike with a group and I like the gear talk when in camp. I am a tent camper looking for ways to lighten my pack. My backpacking trips are currently weekend excursions in Southern California, USA. If my business travel allows me to get away, I try to backpack one or two weekends a month.

REVIEW

Tenacious Tape is an ultra strong tape, ideal to repair rips, tears, holes and gashes in a wide variety of outdoor gear. The roll of clear tape (0.75 in = 2 cm diameter) that I bought is protected inside a blue plastic tube (1.1 in = 2.8 cm diameter). The tape's adhesive backing is protected by a black liner paper imprinted with the GEAR AID logo and the Tenacious Tape wording.

I have used Tenacious Tape to repair two tears in the coated ripstop nylon of my tent. Since that repair, I have used the tent on five weekend outings. Neither the fabric stretch caused by the nearby pole nor me rolling up the tent body tightly to fit snug into my pack have caused the Tenacious Tape to come loose.

And I have used Tenacious Tape to seal rips on the inside foot area hems of my hiking pants that keep getting torn by my hiking boots hitting the seams. I had first tried to sew a patch over each of these sensitive fabric areas but then the patches ripped. The Tenacious Tape has held up pretty well. I have used the pants on a handful of outings since and washed them each time thereafter. So far, the tape is holding up well.

First, I used a moist microfiber cloth to wipe clean the fabric surface that I wanted to apply the Tenacious Tape to. While the surface dried, I measured the area I wanted to cover with the tape. Using scissors, I cut the Tenacious Tape square. I then rounded the tape corners. Now I removed the paper liner and avoided touching the adhesive backing with my fingers. I applied the tape to the damaged area and applied pressure with a fingernail from the center out. This pressuring motion squeezed out any air bubbles and made sure the tape had full surface contact. It worked very well.

THINGS I LIKE

Lightweight tape roll inside handy tube
Easy to use
Strong adhesive properties
The clear tape is virtually invisible

THINGS I DON'T LIKE

Nothing really
