1) The Owner Review Group:
Owner Reviews and Getting Started with BackpackGearTest

Before you are eligible for testing you need to write, and have published, a minimum of two Owner Reviews. Owner Reviews are reviews of pieces of gear you own and have had extensive experience with. Writing these reviews familiarizes you with BackpackGearTest requirements, the editing process, and the process of uploading reviews or reports. There is a dedicated team of editors for Owner Reviews, and all discussions related to Owner Reviews are on the following BackpackGearTest Yahoo! site http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BackpackGearTest/. This site was established so that new testers could get into the swing of things without having to experience the high volume of the main Yahoo! Group. Again, you can sign up to receive it in digest form or read it in the online web archive. All testers are encouraged to belong to this group and continue to write Owner Reviews even after they become veteran testers.

2) The Primary Discussion Group:
Testing, Reporting, and Editing BGT tests and Discussion thereof

Our primary group is used for gear chat and test administration. This is where you go to talk about gear with all the other gearheads, and to post test series reports (Initial Reports, Field Reports, and Long Term Reports) for editing by the test monitors. Some people might consider this to be a high volume list, as it generates around 1000 messages a month. You can also sign up to receive it in digest form or read it in the online web archive. It is located at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/backpackgeartesters/.

3) The Upload Help Group:
Having Problems Uploading Your Reports or With HTML - Ask Here

We also have a list manned by knowledgeable volunteers to help you with any problems you might have uploading your reports. Our goal is to get good gear testers that produce good reports. We wish to provide help to those people who do not have a lot of computer experience, and might be scared of trying to learn HTML. This group is a much lower volume than our main list. It is located at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BGTFileUploadHelp/.

4) The BGT Web Group:
Discuss the Website Development and Policy Issues

The list that we use to discuss website design related issues is http://groups.yahoo.com/group/BGTWeb/. It is generally of little interest except to those of us working on the site.

5) The Upload Notification Group:
Get Notified When New Reports are Uploaded

The list we use to send out notifications that a new report has been uploaded is http://www.backpackgeartest.org/mailman/listinfo/upload-notify_backpackgeartest.org. You may subscribe to this list either as individual notices or as a daily digest. You do not need to be a member of the main list to join this list, and members of the main list are not required to join this one.

Product tested and reviewed in each Formal Test Report has been provided free of charge by the manufacturer to BackpackGearTest.org. Upon completion of the Test Series the writer is permitted to keep the product. Owner Reviews are based on product owned by the reviewer personally unless otherwise noted.

If you are an avid backpacker, we are always looking for enthusiastic, quality reviewers. Apply here to be a gear tester.
