Field Report: Big Sky Products - Cup 2 go

My e-mail:bpskids@charter.net
Name: Jodi Cornelius
Age: 42
Height: 5'4"/1.6 m
Weight: 160 lbs/73 kg
Gender: Female
City: Derrick City
State: PA
Country: USA
Date: July 12, 2004
My area of the country: Northwest Pennsylvania

My Background: I have been backpacking for 2 years now and before that I car camped quite a bit. I consider myself somewhat new to backpacking and am on my way towards becoming a lightweight packer.  I tend to use a Hennessey Hammock since my only tent is a bivy tent.  I prefer the hammock to a tent as the hammock leaves me swinging gently in the breeze with no hard spot from rocks on the ground.  Nor do I need to dig troughs for my hips and shoulders (side sleeper) so I can practice LNT (Leave No Trace) much better.

Testing: I have been using this cup as my primary cup in all my hikes.  It has been used for hot drinks (coffee and hot chocolate) and cups of soups.  I have also used it to measure my water for my freeze-dried meals.  It works great for measuring water.  But other than that, I haven't been that impressed with the cup.  The neoprene sleeve doesn't stay on, it falls off when I pick up the cup.  I thought that it would stay on better but it hasn't.  The cozy stays on unless the cup is full of a hot beverage/soup.  I continue trying to use the cup but so far I haven't been happy using it.  I have used it for hot chocolate which only uses 3/4 C (6 oz/170 g) but not for my hot coffee since the first use as I prefer a bigger cup of coffee.  And I have used it for my oatmeal and soups that use only 6 oz.  However, I prefer using my Lexan cup.

The cleaning of it is more difficult when using the cup for my oatmeal.  Even though the graduated lines in the cup are small, they still trap what I call "oatmeal slime" on the bottom of the lines.  I also noticed that while it hasn't warped yet, the plastic gets a little soft when filled with boiling water.  I will watch that closely between now and my long term report.

Things I like: It's lightweight.

Things I dislike:  It was rather rough and also a bit disappointing upon first look.  The cup is EXACTLY 1 cup (8 oz/227 g) which gives no room for adding coffee, hot chocolate, or soups to the cup.  The beverage or soup will need to be made in the cook pot and then poured into the cup.  The cup would be a little better, in my opinion, if the cup was just even an eighth inch/.32 cm higher.  The added weight would be negligible, again in my own opinion, compared to the convenience to being able to make the drink/soup in the cup
