Backpacking Background: In the last four years, I have returned to backpacking and hiking.  Although I took 18 years off, the woods kept calling.  I have hiked in Georgia, North Carolina and the Smokies.  I have been a three-season backpacker but recently ventured into winter backpacking and truly enjoyed it.  My three-season pack weight is about 23 pounds total (10.43 kg) but I am really trying to lighten up.  The winter pack weight is significantly heavier as I get cold very easily (read that ice cold sleeper).

Product Description:

The hard plastic cups arrived in a small box and were not wrapped or padded but appeared to be in good condition.  The neoprene cover on one cup is printed with the Big Sky Cup 2 Go logo.  The other cover is printed with "Your name here."  The cup has graduated markings at 1/4 cup or 2 oz (59 ml), ½ cup or 4 oz (118 ml), 3/4 cup or 6 oz (177 ml) and 1 cup or 8 oz (237 ml).  I measured water in 1/4 cup (59 ml) increments from my kitchen measuring cup and the markings appear to be accurate and the cups don't leak.  Water pours cleanly from the cup and doesn't run down the side.  The outside of the cup has a pebbled surface and helps hold the neoprene on the cup.  The neoprene fits snugly but not such that it cannot be removed for cleaning.  The seams on the neoprene cover are glued together instead of stitched together.

Initial Impressions:

(1)  I will be interested to see if the glued seams on the neoprene cover will hold up to hard use and high temperatures.
(2) The edges of the cup do have some sharp spots and I will have to remove these with sandpaper since I intend to drink directly from this cup.
(3) The handle of the cup has sharp edges also which I will probably sand down before use.
(4) This cup will hold exactly 1 cup (237 ml) of fluid and may prove to be too small to use as a mug for this java junkie.  It can certainly be used to measure water for my meals.

Test Plan:

I plan to use this cup as my main mug and water measuring cup on backpacking and day hiking trips.  The first trip will be an overnight trip on the Benton MacKaye Trail in NW Georgia next weekend.  I will see if the cup can keep coffee hot and if it can hold enough to get me going in the morning.  I also want to see if the cup is easy to clean or if food sticks in the graduated markings inside the cup.  It packs easily and is lightweight but that is meaningless unless it is also functional.
