My Background: I have been backpacking for 3 years now and before that I car camped quite a bit. I consider myself somewhat new to backpacking and am on my way towards becoming a lightweight packer. I tend to use a Hennessey Hammock since my only tent is a bivy tent. I prefer the hammock to a tent as the hammock leaves me swinging gently in the breeze with no hard spot from rocks on the ground. Nor do I need to dig troughs for my hips and shoulders (side sleeper) so I can practice LNT (Leave No Trace) much better.

Field Testing: For a little more information, please read my Initial Report.

So far I have used the French Press 5 times. All 5 were on day hikes. While using the French Press, I find that I like using it upside down with the grounds in the basket instead of "pressing" them into the bottom of the mug. That way, I pull out the filter basket and the grounds come up with the basket leaving no mess inside! I like that! So far, I haven't had ANY grounds left floating in my coffee. This is a good thing as I hate finding grounds when I'm drinking the last few swallows of coffee.

Cleanup has been easy. Just swish the filter basket in some water a couple of times and it's clean. The grounds rinse out without too much fuss. Then, once I've cleaned it, it's a simple task to take it apart and when I'm done drinking my coffee, storing it back in the cup with the rest of the stove. All in one - no looking through my pack for the French Press, no messy ziplock baggies. I love it!

So far, the shaft screws together really well and it has continued to be a solid shaft, no abnormal flexing.

My long term usage will be to check to see how well the shaft screws hold up to constant putting together and taking apart. I will also be checking to see how well it rides inside with the fuel canister and stove. Does the screen want to separate from the plastic?

Things I like so far: It's a lightweight way to carry a French Press and it takes up no space in my pack.
