My Background: I have been backpacking for 3 years now and before that I car camped quite a bit. I consider myself somewhat new to backpacking and am on my way towards becoming a lightweight packer. I tend to use a Hennessey Hammock since my only tent is a bivy tent. I prefer the hammock to a tent as the hammock leaves me swinging gently in the breeze with no hard spot from rocks on the ground. Nor do I need to dig troughs for my hips and shoulders (side sleeper) so I can practice LNT (Leave No Trace) much better.

For the statistics and main testing phase please see my Initial Report and Field Report.

Field Experience: I have truly enjoyed using this particular piece of equipment.   Unless I test something else, I will be using this stove for most of my trips.  This has been a great test!  I will use the Jetboil for every trip I take unless it's going to be longer than a week, at which time I will probably use my Brasslite alcohol stove to save on weight.

In using this stove I have only noticed one thing that gets just a "touch" annoying.  The first time you fire the stove up when hiking, it takes 2 to 4 pressings of the igniter to start the flame.  After that, however, it seldom takes more than one press to ignite the flame.  So this is simply a mild annoyance and nothing more.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to hit the AT (Appalachian Trail) and put the Jetboil to good use.  The pictures below show my final meal for this test:

CRAB LEGS!!!!  (Yummy!)

The water took less than 2 minutes to boil - the crab legs took about 5 minutes to cook.  Although it is not a "normal" trail meal, it was quite tasty nonetheless.

The average boiling time, I have discovered, is about 1.5 minutes.  I am most impressed with the actual boiling time.  The name Jetboil is most appropriate.  Not to mention that it sounds like a jet engine fired up.

Cleanup has been easy.  There is some minor staining inside the Cup.  But it's nothing major.

This test has been a great pleasure to do and I want to thank BGT and Jetboil for allowing me to test this fine product.

Weather conditions: In the tests thus far, I have tested the Jetboil in temps as low as 35 F/2 C, with no adverse difficulties, to a high of 64 F/18 C. Winds have ranged from calm to 25 mph/41 kph with the occasional gust of 50 mph/81 kph. I will be using this stove this winter and will do an owner's review next year.

Things I like: I love the way it all fits inside the Jetboil cup. Although it is heavier than my alcohol stove system, I like how the fuel fits right inside the cup which makes it much easier to pack.
