Backpacking Background:

I have been backpacking for the past 6 years, with my husband, in the Adirondack Mountains, New York State. I have completed several long distance thru-hikes including a month long hike on the Long Trail, Vermont.

Typically I carry a medium-weight to light-weight pack. I try to stay under 25 lb (11.34 kg) for gear, food and water on my longer treks. For easy hikes, I carry more. While hiking, I have experienced many weather conditions from hot humid days/nights, rainy days/nights to cold nights and frosty mornings. Happily, I spend most of my weekends, Spring through Fall, backpacking.

Testing:

Mountain House Golden Sweet Whole Kernel Corn is a staple in my backwoods cooking supplies. I have used it for the past three years on numerous weekends and thru-hikes using my Camping GAZ stove to boil water. The corn comes in a convenient stand-up pouch that is easily opened. I usually fold the package in half to save room in a bear bin or my stuff sack. It is waterproof so it stands up to rain. Once opened, the used pouch is handy since it has a zipper closure and can become a garbage bag for smaller items I need to pack out.

I have prepared the corn under varied weather conditions with the same excellent results. Preparation is simple: add 1 cup (8 oz) (237 ml) of boiling water to the pouch, stir, close zipper and let stand for 5-10 minutes. I have used the excess water that must be drained, by adding it to uncooked cous cous or to a sauce that will go over the main meal I'm making.

The texture of the corn is good and the taste is sweet and fresh. I like this as a side dish or to add it to cous cous or instant rice with different spices of my choice and some freeze dried chicken or beef.  These simple ingredients forms a main meal that I find satisfying and filling.

Conclusion:

The corn is easy to prepare, light to carry and tastes delicious. It's great for a side dish or as a component of a main meal. Long shelf life.

Suggestions:

None. I think this product performed very well.
