Backpacking Background:

My hiking experiences began in the 1960s.  My experiences include hikes in Europe, the Mediterranean, Canada, Alaska, and most Eastern and Western states in a variety of terrain.  I hike in all seasons, in temperatures as low as 5 F (-15 C) to as high as 110 F (43 C), in rain, shine and snow and from desert to forest to mountain.  My pack weights vary from 25 lbs (11 kg) to 10 lbs (5 kg).

Product Description:

The OAS (Outdoor Adventure Series) Backpacker Footbed is an insert for hiking shoes and boots that is designed to provide cushioning, support and motion control while undertaking strenuous outdoor activity, including carrying heavy loads over varying terrain for multiple days at a time. For more information on these footbeds please review my Initial Report and my Field Report.

Usage:

I have worn these insoles in three different types of shoes, trail runners, and hiking boots since receiving them. I wear them practically every day, and have used them on hiking trips to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado, on a hike in the Yucatan Peninsula, on hikes in and around Big Bend National Park and anytime I hike locally in my park. I have also used them in my biking shoes.

Long Term Report:

Suffering from flat feet as I do, I have always had some problems with my feet on long hikes, especially over rough terrain. I have found that for me, these Spenco footbeds have performed very well in cushioning and protecting my feet while hiking with or without loads, and in all types of terrain, especially rocky type situations as I encountered in Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado. I like the support they give my arches and I like the way they cradle my feet in my shoes.  My pack weight varied from 10 to 35 lbs, (5 to 16 kg) on the different hikes I took with these footbeds.  I have found them to excel when my pack loads were heaviest.  I have worn them many times in wet conditions, while raining, while hiking in standing water and on muddy trails, and they have held together very well. They have not come apart, or delaminated in any way. I continue to use these in my different types of shoes, and have found that they have outperformed any other footbed that I have used in the past.

Spenco footbeds after 6 months of use

The Spenco footbeds are no worse for wear, after miles and miles of hikes, in all types of terrain, and in conditions ranging from desert to mountain to sylvan glade to rain forest.
