This is
the closing report of a series of three:
-
for a
complete description of the Chaco Z/2 Sandals and my first impressions,
please
refer to my Initial
Report
-
field
testing during the first two-month period is related in my Field
Report
-
this
last report closes the six-month testing period and has two main
purposes:
confirm or invalidate the observations made during the previous period,
and
report on the condition of the Chaco Z/2 Sandals after a prolonged
usage.
During
the past months, I've kept on wearing the Chaco Z/2 Sandals as often as
possible, and whatever I was doing outdoors. (I don't use footwear when
at home,
as I usually go barefoot). I gave up wearing them just a couple of
weeks ago,
as the temperatures were becoming too cold to walk without socks.
The grounds
here didn't cooperate either as they became more and more strewn over
with
thorny
chestnuts burs.

|
The test conditions
has remained the same as described in my previous report. Though
I
didn't take special care of them, after almost 6 months of intensive
use and a
few trips through the washing-machine, they're almost as pristine as
when I
took them
out of the box. The only detail that can betray their age is a slight
wear of
the sole (on the inside heel side), that I've not been able to make
noticeable
on a picture. A continuing problem is that the straps remain as
difficult
to
adjust as on the very first day; and even a new application of Teflon
spray
after each machine-wash doesn't seem to make the process easier.
|
|
Thus,
after having worn the Chaco Z/2 Sandals on a regular basis for almost 6
months,
I can confirm the provisional conclusion I made at the end of the first
two-month period:
-
I
find the Chaco
Z/2 Sandals extremely
comfortable, and they'll remain my favourite footwear choice for hiking
in
various terrains, provided the temperature is warm enough so I don't
need to
wear socks

I
would
like to thank again Chaco and BackpackGearTest.org for having given me
the
opportunity to test these impressive sandals.

I
started backpacking
eight years ago, day-hiking in Ile-de-France all year round, and doing
several
one or two-weeks trips in more mountainous regions (Corsica,
Pyrénées,
Cévennes, Lubéron, etc.) each year.
In the past two
years, I have gradually
lightened my pack load as I went for a hammock, an alcohol stove, a
light pack
and trainers.
Nowadays, I am more and more attracted to the outdoor way
of
living, to the point I am moving to northern Quebec in a few months, in
order
to spend as much time as possible not only backpacking, but also
kayaking,
canoeing, snowshoeing, dog-sledding, etc. |
