DUNHAM WAFFLE STOMPER ALCATRAZ WATER ESCAPE TRAIL SHOE
December 27, 2005 Name: Russell Curry Age: 58 Height: 6'0" (1.83 m) Weight: 185 lbs (84 kg) Email: mrqcace@yahoo.com City, State, Country: Orange, Texas, USA Backpacking Background: My hiking experiences began in the 1960s. They include hikes in many European countries, the Mediterranean, Canada, Alaska and most Eastern and Western States. I hike in all seasons, in temperatures as low as 5 F (-15 C) to as high as 110 F (43 C), in rain, shine, and snow and from desert to forest to mountain. My pack weights vary from 25 lbs (11 kg) to 10 lbs (5 kg). Product Identification: Item: Dunham Waffle Stomper Alcatraz Water Escape Trail Shoe Manufacturer: Dunham URL: www.dunhambootmakers.com Year of Manufacturer: 2005 MSRP: $100.95 Product Description: The Alcatraz Water Escape Trail Shoe is a performance trail runner type shoe designed to be worn in wet or dry conditions. Dunham claims they can be worn from "puddles to paddling". They are designed for optimum traction in wet or dry conditions. There are water evacuation channels to allow the shoes to drain quickly. For a more detailed description of these shoes and to review my field tests, please see my Initial Review and my Field Report. Usage: I have continued to wear these shoes practically every day, for daily hikes in my local park, on a hiking trip to the Yucatan Peninsula, and on many other hikes and outings of varying length and in all types of weather and outdoor conditions. LONG TERM TEST RESULTS I have worn these shoes in many different types of outdoor terrain, in all weather conditions, and they have performed very well for me. The fabric and material has weathered well, and has not failed in any way. The claim by Dunham that these shoes perform well from "puddles to paddling" was true for me. I have found them to be comfortable, even after hiking in them in wet conditions. The soles have done a good job of providing traction on wet boulders and other slick footings. The bubble laces have for the most part stayed secure after tying. The motion control part of the shoe system has performed as claimed. They have done a good job of draining when I wore them in wet conditions, many times in water over my ankles. I plan on continuing to wear these shoes until they wear out. I have found them to be almost a universal type of trail runner, working well for me from the damp trails in the Yucatan, to boulder hopping in RMNP in Colorado, to the high desert around Big Bend NP and on other trail conditions as well.
