I just received my Mt. Washington foam pad from my friendly UPS dude. When I picked the box up I thought it was empty!! I weighed it with and with out straps. It came in at 9 1/4 oz. and 7 3/4 oz. respectively. I'll let them slide on the extra 3/4 of an oz. The one I got measures 59" X 19 3/4 ", slightly smaller than advertised. The foam, a bright red, I might add, is very firm. It feels much firmer than my RidgeRest. This, for me, is a good thing. From the picture on the web site I was expecting one of those really soft "egg crate" pads. Although it is "egg crate" it is much more useable than that. I've not used a 3/4 length pad since the '60s but this one feels pretty good. It just happens to be about the same length as I am when I sleep on my side. I normally wear down or fleece booties and use a pillow so the slightly shorter length shouldn't be a problem. The pad comes with two nylon straps with a non-clip buckle on each one. I probably won't use these as my pad is always in my pack. A quick check seems to indicate that the pad is too thick to fit in the back holder on my G4. I'll probably roll it inside and maybe put a "setting" pad in the back of the G4.
Just laying here on the floor, the pad seems comfortable enough for me. As I said, I was expecting it to be too soft to be practical but that doesn't seem to be the case at all. I'm going to Washington and Canada for about two weeks so I'll have more to report then.
